History – West Coast National Park

The park started as a conservation area to protect coastal wetlands and bird habitats and later expanded to include adjacent floral reserves. Land use shifted from pastoral and agricultural uses to conservation-focused planning that aimed to link coastal lagoons with terrestrial habitats for migratory birds.
