History – Vuntut National Park

Established in 1995 following land claim agreements with the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation, the park protects wildlife habitat and cultural heritage. Indigenous communities historically traveled the area for hunting and fishing. Park management prioritizes minimal infrastructure, ecosystem conservation, and Indigenous stewardship. Scientific monitoring includes caribou migrations, river hydrology, and tundra health. Interpretive programs highlight Indigenous knowledge and Arctic ecology. Vuntut serves as a remote Arctic conservation and recreation site.
