History – Tuktut Nogait National Park
Established in 1998, Tuktut Nogait protects critical habitat for Peary caribou, muskox, and other Arctic species. Indigenous Inuvialuit communities historically used the area for hunting, fishing, and seasonal travel. Park management focuses on ecological preservation with minimal infrastructure. Research programs monitor caribou populations, river ecology, and tundra health. The park provides rare opportunities for Arctic conservation education and controlled adventure tourism.
