Hiking in Tsavo West National Park – Safari Activity

Tsavo West offers several hiking trails for adventure seekers. One notable trail is the Chaimu Crater Trail, which is rated as moderate to difficult. This 2.5-mile (4 km) trail involves an elevation gain of 656 feet (200 meters) and takes hikers to the summit of Chaimu Crater, a prominent volcanic cone in the park. The trail offers challenging terrain with steep slopes and rocky paths, passing through sparse vegetation and volcanic ash fields. Another popular climb is Kichwa Tembo, which has an elevation rise of 984 feet (300 meters). A permit is required for these hikes, and early starts are recommended due to the hot temperatures later in the day.
