History – Richtersveld National Park

The park arose through cooperative conservation agreements with local communities who retained land use rights and cultural heritage. The area's rich cultural tradition and unique succulent plants led to formal protection, and stakeholders developed community-based tourism that benefits local people and preserves knowledge of plant use and rock art.
