History – Mountain Zebra National Park

The park originated from conservation efforts to rescue and breed the Cape mountain zebra in the early 20th century. Managers used protected breeding and translocation programs to rebuild populations, and the park later expanded to protect surrounding habitats and offer tourism that supports continued recovery.
