History – Kruger National Park
The area that became Kruger National Park began life as protected zones in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It grew after formal proclamation in 1926. Early conservation work focused on preventing hunting and fencing to manage wildlife. Rangers and scientists set foundational practices that shaped later SANParks management. Over decades Kruger expanded and developed networked rest camps and research programs. Today Kruger stands as South Africa's oldest and largest national park and a flagship for conservation, tourism, and education.
